The Chicago Blackhawks recalled Jake Dowell from Rockford of the AHL on Monday. To quote the Hawks official Twitter page, “he just got Skille-d”.
This roster move ensures that captain Jonathan Toews will miss tonight’s game against the Wild. This isn’t much of a surprise, considering that Toews and defenseman Brent Seabrook did not practice on Sunday.
With the game tonight against a last place Minnesota squad, head coach Joel Quenneville clearly did not see the reward in rushing his two injured stars back, and that urgency probably won’t be there Thursday night either as the Hawks take on Nashville in the Music City. After taking on Montreal on Friday night, the Hawks will be off for the next six days, when they will skate into Phoenix.
With the upcoming weak schedule, and lengthy period off afterwards, don’t be surprised if Quenneville holds the two players out until they are absolutely ready, rather than force them back into action. The Hawks, it seems, have the luxury of biding their time against weak competition.
